Once again Zenith is honoring its partnership Land Rover partnership with a new skeletonized “Defy” model designed as a homage to the new “Range Rover Evoque” mid-size SUV 2019 model. Just as in previous editions Zenith has managed to honor this joint venture, thru ingenious design elements instead of stamping it with multiple brand logos.
This partnership has been going on for three years now and has led to some interesting models. In 2017 we reviewed the “Zenith Chronomaster El Primero Range Rover Velar Special Edition” (Ref#: 24.2042.4000/27.R799), which you can read more about here.
The 41mm case is made out of brushed titanium with a transparent exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. This screwed on case back features a turquoise blue star engraved on directly to the crystal; while on the titanium rim they have inscribed “DEFY FOR RANGE ROVER” and the unique number for each of these 200 limited edition pieces.
It comes equipped with a setting-crown and has been shaped by taking several cues from its Range Rover automotive inspiration. This skeletonized timepiece has been streamlined and undergone a brushed finish that has given the case a robust and subtle appearance. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, which assists with water-resistance on this watch being able to reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).
Time is exhibited on an open-worked skeletonized dial with rhodium-plated hour index markers, followed by a grey inner flange with small white printed second’s markers and slightly thicker minute index markers, circling around the dial. Keeping with the Land Rover theme of this special edition, Zenith has crafted the skeletonized dial to resemble a Range Rover rim.
It comes equipped with rhodium-plated central hour and minute hands, plus an “Arctic Petrol” (turquoise blue) hued central seconds hand. There is also a white date aperture at the 6 o’clock position, although do to the skeletonized nature of the dial the ring of numerals that supplies the current date is completely visible. The central hands and hour index markers have been fitted with a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility.
Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton Range Rover
This “Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton Range Rover” (Ref#: 95.9001.670/77.R791) is powered by a self-winding in-house mechanical movement, caliber Elite 670 SK (skeleton model) with 27 jewels, 187 components and 28,800 Vph. It comes equipped an oscillating weight colored by the aforementioned “Arctic Petrol” hue. Power reserve on this timepiece can last up to 50 hours, when fully wound. (The non-skeletonized models are powered by the Elite 670 caliber movement, which is essentially identical in its main components.)
Mounted to the watch is an integrated black rubber strap with diamond motif pattern, while secured to the wrist by a titanium double folding-clasp. This is a limited edition of only 200 manufactured timepieces. For more up to date information visit the official Zenith website here.
