As this year’s 87th edition of the “International Geneva Motor Show” is underway, the horology brand Zenith and their recent collaborators the iconic British car brand Land Rover have seized the occasion to celebrate their collaboration by unveiling the new: “Chronomaster El Primero Range Rover Velar Special Edition”.
Their first collaboration was engaged in late 2016, when they joined forces to issue the “Zenith Chronomaster El Primero Range Rover Special Edition” and celebrate the very first luxury all-terrain “Range Rover” to be made available for the public at large. Now, they’re in the process of releasing the new “Range Rover Velar”, which is the fourth luxury mid-size crossover SUV in the Range Rover line, available for summer 2017. Zenith’s temporary CEO Jean-Claude Biver and Land Rover’s chief design officer Gerry McGovern, have both expressed satisfaction over this new collaborative timepiece and vehicle.

This new “Range Rover Velar” introduces smoother lines and an overall new visual style compared to previous models. Its interior is more driver-centric with the lowest seating position ever found on a Land Rover. It’s quite reminiscent of certain lines seen on their Evoque model, although evidently taking a step further. But, overall the Range Rover Velar has been built with comfort and on-road performance, as a top priority.
The 42mm case for this collaborative piece has once again been made out of aluminium with a ceramised finish and a transparent case back. Through the sapphire crystal we can visualize the special oscillating weight with a circular satin-brushed motif and the “Zenith” & “Range Rover” logos engraved on it.
There are also two pushers on the right side of the case to operate the chronograph functions. The dial is covered by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. Water-resistance on this timepiece can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).
Time is exhibited on a brushed grey dial with copper toned highlights and hour index markers. A color-scheme that can also be seen on the “Range Rover Velar” vehicle. Also includes a: 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position; a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position and a date aperture at the 6 o’clock spot. Its index hour markers, plus hour and minute hands have all undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. Circling around the dial is also a minute index ring, followed by a tachymeter scale, nearing the bezel.
