Zenith has hit a milestone year in 2019 as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of their most definitive and reputable movement: the “El Primero”. They will be releasing an anniversary boxed set containing three chronographs: the El Primero 1969 Revival; a “Chronomaster 2 El Primero”; and a “Defy El Primero 21 to a 1/100th of a second” model.

To celebrate the historic model that gave rise to it, the second watch in the case is the new “Chronomaster 2.0”, equipped with a latest generation El Primero movement and a black ceramic bezel. As the direct descendant of El Primero, the Zenith Chronomaster is its most emblematic classic-modern incarnation. In this box-set it reappears with a new design, while bringing back the striking 10th display within an overall optimized movement.
The renamed El Primero 3600 high-frequency caliber is capable of accurately measuring one tenth of a second and offering direct reads on the dial and bezel. This watch relies on the Striking 10th concept, which allows the seconds hand to rotate not once per minute, but every 10 seconds. So, the chronograph hand can make one dial turn on 10 seconds, indicating at each jump the tenth of a second on a scale graduated from 1 to 100.
The 42mm case is made of stainless-steel with a transparent case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Mounted to the case is an external, graduated bezel made of black ceramic, engraved with a white graduated scale running from 1 to 100, to countdown the aforementioned 10th of a second.
It also comes equipped with two push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions, with a setting-crown in-between them. In essence we have the standard Chronomaster case with the distinctively spaced out lugs, but with a larger diameter. All topped by a sapphire crystal, which assists with water-resistance on this watch reading up to 100 meters (330 feet).
Time is exhibited on a silver sunray-finished dial with stainless-steel applied hour index markers, followed by black printed minute index markers. Farther out there on the inner flange a black ring with white printed seconds and minute index markers. The stainless steel central hands and hour index markers have been fitted with a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility.
It also includes a central red chronograph hand with a star-shaped Zenith logo as a counter-balance. Plus the three sub-dials with the signature “El Primero” blue, grey and silver hues: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position in blue; a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock position in grey; and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position in silver. There is also a date aperture at the 6 o’clock position.

This watch is not sold separately, it is part of a limited edition box-set of only 50 manufactured series. For more up to date information visit the official Zenith website here.
