Vacheron Constantin returns with a limited edition of their “Traditionelle Day-Date and Power Reserve” model, for the USA and Canadian market. After their pink gold and platinum versions, this time around they’ve made it in rose gold and have given it a very delicately crafted dial, making it pop-out from amongst previous incarnations.
This exclusive North American edition is clearly aimed at gaining new clientele. Personnel over at Vacheron Constantin have felt a decline in markets such as Russia and China, as well as the rise of a younger consumer yet to be fully schooled on horology appreciation. And though these customers are also allured by style, design, brand name and status symbols. Exclusivity can also be a determining factor to succeed in sales.
The round 39mm case is made of 18k rose gold with a slim smooth bezel. There is a knurled motif around the screw-down back and a Maltese cross-shaped logo engraved on the screw-in crown. Also this timepiece ships with a corrector pen, which is used in order to adjust the date via the concealed pusher located under the crown and aligned with the 4 o’clock position, on the side of the case.
The exquisite black guilloché hand-worked dial has been crafted as the key factor in this timepiece. Its hand engraved lines were created using an engine-turned guilloché machine. A hefty piece of equipment whose hand-crank holds the dial in place, while it’s skillfully hand turned by the craftsmen. It should move at a specific speed and depth in order to precisely chisel away tiny pieces of metal from the dial and form the desired pattern. A tedious process that requires skills and stamina to constantly rotate the piece and etch the fine details onto it successfully.
Time is told via 18k rose gold hour index markers and a white railroad minute index ring, circling the dial near the bezel. Also features two sub-dials: a circular calendar located near the 3 o’clock position; and a circular weekday marker at the 9 o’clock position. There is also a power reserve indicator located over the 6 o’clock position. The dauphine shaped hour & minute hands, including the second hands are also made of 18k rose gold.
