We’ve still got some months to go before the upcoming SIHH 2017, but Vacheron Constantin are already revealing some of their expected timepieces. Like this new watch featuring a minute repeater and tourbillon, for the Traditionnelle model line.

The 44mm round case will be available in a 950 platinum or 18k pink gold version, both equipped with a transparent sapphire crystal caseback, which allows to see the inner movement. And quite an impressive caliber has been packed in this timepiece, allowing to drive two major horological complications: the minute repeater and the tourbillon. There is also a power reserve indicator on the caseback, with a pink gold pointer whose color was achieved by a black oxide process.

There is a pusher on the left side of the case used to activate the minute repeater. With a single press on it, the gongs of the mechanism chime the hours, quarters and minutes. The expertise to develop such a complication go beyond just mastering the technical complexity of this complication. A craftsman should also possess a keen excellent musical ear, in order to correctly adjust the gongs as one would an instrument. A true testament to horology knowledge passed down from one generation to the next, at the historic Vacheron Constantin facilities.

Time is exhibited on a silver opaline colored dial or slate grey for the 18k white gold hour marked versions; or, just a silver opaline colored dial for the 18k pink gold model. All models feature an engraved and refined hand-guilloché finish to the dial, which is exclusively reserved for timepieces only available at the Vacheron Constantin boutiques. A much appreciated technique that’s been stunning horology enthusiasts since the 18th century onwards.

Hour and minute hands on this watch also vary between being made of 18k white gold or a 18k pink gold, depending on the chosen model. These hands are also slightly offset towards the upper section of the dial, in order to provide more space for the tourbillon carriage appearing in the lower half. So, the exposed tourbillon movement is located over the 6 o’clock position. There will also be a prestige model of this timepiece sold and delivered with the resonator of sound “La Musique du Temps”, which will enhance the sound and the harmony of notes of the Vacheron Constantin minute repeater.
