This updated Vacheron Constantin was originally released in 2008 and provided a contemporary expression of the proud Fine Watchmaking traditions maintained by the Maison Vacheron Constantin. Now we can enjoy the paring of three iconic shapes from their aesthetic heritage on a stainless steel version of the “Quai de I’Île” collection.
The name of this model line refers to the 19th century master cabinotiers, which was a center of superb craftsmanship that helped spread the fame of this Swiss manufacture. The “Quai de I’Île” collection embodies an avant-garde aesthetic vision of watchmaking traditions. It reinterprets a technical and inventive legacy provided by Vacheron Constantin for a now 260 years of uninterrupted legacy in horology.
The 41mm case is made of stainless steel with alternating polished and satin-brushed finishes. It manages to mix three iconic shapes from the Vacheron Constantin heritage: a round bezel, a cushion-type case and a tonneau barrel caseband. The befitting “shape in shape” design gives way to a quite unique aesthetic, accentuated by the light gleaming across the finishes. For optimal comfort, the split-level lugs reinforce the dynamics of this case which also features an exhibition caseback.
A multi-level construction made of three distinct parts is interpreted in two distinct versions for this “Quai de I’Île” relaunch. You can either opt for a silver-toned or black colored dial, with an opaline finish. Both exhibit a mixture of Arabic numerals and hour index markers made of white luminescent material. The traditional aperture window date is replaced by a two-level date indication. The construction of this dial also includes a transparent mineral glass disc with the dates of the month inked on it. Under the glass, the date disc of caliber 5100 can be seen with an indicator pointing towards the correct date.
