Back at SIHH there were several interesting blue dial watches released by Vacheron Constantin. But, we were particularly intrigued by a trio of timepieces in their “Patrimony” collection that came in the form of a: time-only, time and date, plus a day-date model with a very unique and highly legible layout.
These watches for the most part seem quite similar, but they all come with at least one fundamental and essential difference. In common all these three watch come mounted to a dark blue alligator Mississippiensis strap with notable scales, secured to the wrist by an 18k pink gold ardillon buckle, except for the “Retrograde Day-Date” which is secured by an 18k pink gold deployment buckle. They are also all topped by a sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance on these timepieces reaching up to 30 meters (98 feet). Let’s go take a look at each of them one by one:
First up we have the simplest option in the form of a “Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Manual-Winding”. The 40mm case is made of 18k pink gold with a sold case back. Mounted to the case is a matching gold fixed bezel. It comes equipped with a setting-crown that has been embossed with the trademark Maltese cross.
Time on this version, as well as on all the other three options is exhibited on a very alluring blue dial with a sunburst finish, which the brand has referred to as “majestic blue” at some press conferences.
Circling around the periphery the dial are 18k pink gold applied baton-style hour index markers, followed by smaller dotted minute index markers also made of pink gold; just like the central hands And that’s it for this simpler option, besides the white “Vacheron Constantin” inscription and their trademark Maltese cross logo in gold, on the upper-half of the dial.

This “Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Manual-Winding” (Ref#: 81180/000R-B518) is powered by a hand-wound mechanical movement, caliber 1400 with 20 jewels, 98 parts and 28,800 vph. Power reserve on this watch can last up to 40 hours, when fully wound.
MSRP: $18,600.00 USD
Next up we have the “Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Self-Winding”. It also comes in an 18k pink gold, but with a transparent sapphire exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. In essence this is the same exact case as the manual-winding version, except for the exhibition case. It also features the long stubby lugs that can be seen on all three options, which provides a comfortable wrist fit.
Time is exhibited on the aforementioned blue dial with a sunburst finish. We essentially have the same layout on this timepiece, as seen on the manual-winding version, plus a date aperture at the 6 o’clock position.
A small but wise decision by Vacheron was to keep the date aperture in a blue hue with white numerals, instead the more typical route of making it white with black numerals. This may be a subtle decision, but it preserves the mellow understated feel this gorgeous blue dial seems to emanate.

Finally we reach our favorite of this recent trio of dress watch, the “Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Retrograde Day-Date”.
It comes in a slightly bigger 42.5mm case with a transparent sapphire exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. But, besides the dimensions this is the same case with embossed setting-crown and accommodating lugs.
Time here is also exhibited on the sunburst blue dial with a brushed finish with 18k pink gold applied baton-style hour index markers, followed by smaller dotted minute index markers also made of pink gold. Plus a very original and highly legible day-date spread out over the dial.
On the upper-half is a series of white printed numerals to indicate the current date, which is pointed out by a pink gold hand with a hollow arrow-tip; while on the lower-half are the fully spelled out days of the week, also pointed out by a shorter pink gold hand with the same hollow arrow-tip.
