Back at SIHH 2018 among other releases Ulysse Nardin unveiled the “Diver Deep Dive” model. This is a bold new offering made with professional divers in mind. An inspiring timepiece that innovates, while returning to some of the brands original enticing features.

More recent editions by Ulysse Nardin had seemed to favor their “Marine Collection” with models such as the “Ulysse Nardin Marine Regatta” made to celebrate the 35th America’s Cup, which you can read more about here. Or the “Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer Annual Calendar Monaco 2017” designed to highlight the “Monaco Yacht Show” which is the world’s largest mega yacht exhibition, you can gain more information on it here. But, this new release is a noteworthy come back for the brands “Diver Collection”.

The 46mm case is made of titanium with a solid screw-down case back that features an engraving of a hammerhead shark and the inscription “LIMITED EDITION”. A wide structure built to withstand extreme exposure to environments elements. Mounted to the case is a large titanium bezel with a blue-colored finish and 12-notched teeth to facilitate its rotation, even while wearing diving gloves.

It comes equipped with a removable titanium crown guard at the 2 o’clock position that has a red “1000M” inscription on it and a helium release valve at the 9 o’clock position. The helium valve serves to release helium, hydrogen and other gases along with oxygen that gets trapped inside the watch case. By doing so it eases out and cancels the pressure difference that builds up between the bases inside the case and the environment.

Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 1000 meters (3280 feet), which is the ultimate diver watch. To put it into perspective the world record diving depth is currently 701 meters, while this watch has the capability to go way beyond that at 1000 meters! The crown guard further serves to protect the watches most vulnerable spot and guarantee reaching the watery abyss.

Time is exhibited on a blue dial embossed with the silhouette image of 15 dispersed hammered sharks, with white hour index markers framed in stainless-steel, followed by smaller white printed minute index markers circling the dial. There is an off-center sub-seconds dial between the 4 and 6 o’clock positions, plus Arabic numerals and these red elements: a red hand, “HAMMERHEAD SHARK” inscription and a small hammerhead shark figure. The semi-hollow central-hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture at the 3 o’clock position.
Ulysse Nardin Diver Deep Dive
This “Ulysse Nardin Diver Deep Dive” (Ref#: 3203-500LE-3/93-HAMMER) is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, caliber UN-320 with 39 jewels and 28,800 Vph. Equipped with a patented silicium spiral and anchor escapement. Power reserve on this watch can last up to 48 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted to the watch is a special blue rubber strap with an expandable spring element that adjusts according to water depth, secured to the wrist by a folding-clasp.
