At this year’s Baselworld 2017 for those who didn’t notice, Tudor teamed up with another Swiss watch and jewelry retailer known as Bucherer. And together they have come up with a fine looking “Tudor Black Bay” model, with a blue dial and made of bronze.
Bucherer has famously and cleverly been teaming up with many of the haute horlogerie brands, such as IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Officine Panerai or Audemars Piguet, in order to produce pieces for their “Bucherer Blue Editions Collection”. Now, Tudor has gotten a chance to collaborate and also extend their “Tudor’s Heritage Black Bay Series”, which with this new addition, already counts at least ten different versions of this particular model.
The 43mm case is made out of aluminum-bronze alloy with a solid case back. It’s equipped with a deep blue-colored anodized aluminum insert in the unidirectional rotating diver’s-style bezel. Then topped by a scratch resistant domed sapphire crystal. Water resistance on this watch can reach up to 200 meters (600 feet). And with this possible range of water immersion, it’s safe to say this is the first “Bucherer Blue Edition” in the collection that can be classified as a real diver’s watch.
Basically this watch is identical to the previously released “Heritage Black Bay Bronze”. Although this blue color scheme is more than fitting on this timepiece, since it has traditionally been the “Tudor color”. The brand first released the “Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner 7021” with a blue dial, back in 1969. Other elements on this timepiece are also reminiscent of the first Tudor diver’s watches; such as the domed glass and the dial design.
Time is exhibited on a blue dial with hour index markers and the Arabic numerals 3, 6 and 9. There is also a minute railroad track circling the dial, near the bezel. Comes equipped with Tudor’s characteristic angular hands referred to as “snowflake hands”, a direct inspiration from the French Navy in the 1970’s. The numerals, hour index markers and hands have all undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
Tudor Heritage Black Bay Bronze Blue
This “Tudor Heritage Black Bay Bronze Blue” (Ref#: TBA) is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, caliber MT5601 with 26 jewels and 28,800. This movement is a variation of the Tudor movement that was specifically made for the “Heritage Black Bay Bronze” model. Power reserve on this timepiece can last up to 70 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted to the watch Tudor has given the option of either a: brown aged leather strap or a blue with bronze stripe woven fabric strap; both secured to the wrist by a bronze buckle. Both straps are included with the purchase of this Tudor timepiece.
