TAG Heuer has just unveiled a new Carrera model and this one features an in-house chronograph and tourbillon. But, the pleasant surprise is the $15,950.00 USD price point for this timepiece. The CEO of TAG Heuer, Jean-Claude Biver, had stated that one of his made objectives was to transform this Swiss manufacturer into the neophyte’s entry brand for luxury watches. And since this “Carrera Heuer-02T” has become the most affordable Swiss-made tourbillon chronograph on the market, it may initiate more than a few horologists.
The 45mm case is made of a unique combination of: stainless-steel, grade-5 titanium and rubber. Which has been sealed up to be water-resistant up to 100 meters (330 feet). The semi-skeletonized dial allows to view elements concealed in this movement. A single barrel is exposed at the 12 o’clock position, secured in place by a V-shaped bridge. Arabic numerals can be seen on the bezel, but the remaining time elements are read with index markers.
This skeletonized approach highlights the minute and hour counters at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions. And though smaller than usual, the complicated yet now quite affordable flying tourbillon appears at the 6 o’clock position. Some may wonder how TAG Heuer managed to beat their nearest competitor cost-wise by almost 10 times less! But, one plausible explanation is the lack of precious materials and detailed engravings on the movement, in order to reduce cost so substantially.

This “TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer-02T” is powered by the new manufacture caliber Heuer 02-T, self-winding mechanical movement, constructed with 12 modular components. The power reserve on this timepiece can last up to 65 hours and despite being a tourbillon it’s still COSC certified. Mounted to the watch is a black alligator strap sewn on to rubber.
