BLOG - TAG Coachella FIX

Its official Coachella, the annual music festival will be sponsored by TAG Heuer, the Swiss luxury watch brand. The smartwatch trend is far from conquering the traditional watch market, but TAG Heuer has already issued its own version, the “TAG Heuer Connected”. Supporting this musical event is another step towards an emergent market.

Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival began back in 1999, but after a one-year hiatus, it returned in 2001 as a single-day event and gradually evolved to a 3-day event by 2007. But, by the time we were in 2012 Coachella had reached its current schedule of:  two consecutive 3-day weekend events, occurring during the month of April, with identical line-ups. For 2016, the event will be held on the weekends of 15 to 17 & 22 to 24 of April. Line-up will include acts, such as: Calvin Harris, Ice Cube, Gary Clark Jr., Run the Jewels, M83, Underworld and the recently reunited: LCD Soundsystem and Guns N’ Roses.

A more focused move for this partnership by TAG Heuer will be the unveiling of the mechanical version of the “TAG Heuer Connected”. At the time they released their smartwatch it was already known there would be the option of eventually trading in for a traditional watch, or getting a software update.

As the CEO of TAG Heuer & President of the LVMH Group’s Watch Division stated “TAG Heuer is known in the US as a luxury sport brand, a perception which honors our heritage and mastery of the chronograph movement… [Now] we’ve connected with new fans of TAG Heuer through our support of musical events and talent, and our ability to communicate with a younger generation will be furthered by this new partnership.”

This mechanical version of the “TAG Heuer Connected” will also have a 46mm case made of grade 2 titanium, which is lighter and more resistant to impacts, than steel or gold. And can be purchased mounted to a textured rubber strap, with various colors to choose from: red, blue, white, orange, yellow, green or black. While the dial will feature hour index markers and a day-date window positioned near the 3 o’clock spot.

TAG Heuer Connected

This “TAG Heuer Connected” is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 5, with 25 jewels and 28,800 vph. Power reserve on this timepiece can last up to 38 hours. The “Special Edition Carrera” will be available exclusively to legit owners of a “Connected” smartwatch timepiece.

At Coachella there will also be a TAG Heuer tent in the VIP area and a TAG Heuer lounge equipped with various amenities. The festival crowd will have access to a photo booth that generates social media content and the “TAG Heuer Connected” smartwatch will be available via an interactive display, so interested parties may try out its features for themselves.
