Brands are slowly coming out with some of their Baselworld 2018 releases. Among them will be the new TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02, which has been one of their longest running flagship models.
Along the years it has been released in a multiple of varieties, although for the majority of these iterations it has always kept chronograph functions. Undoubtedly a watch known for bearing sporty aesthetics, even among a brand primarily none for its sports watches. And as the “Carrera” model celebrates its 55th anniversary this year, it continues to evolve without signs of wearing out its aficionado’s interest.
A mere curiosity but worth mentioning was the dropping of the “hyphen”… Even the previous “Heuer-01” if we visit the TAG Heuer we’’ find that they have updated and modified the name to “Heuer 01” to match the coding for the current “Heuer 02”. In essence this does not interfere or change anything about the watches quality, but it’s still a change worth noting, although we do hope they keep this consistent moving forward. There is nothing appealing, nor any apparent reason to justify this alteration, so let’s hope for more timepiece enhancement, with less detail to spelling issues.
This current model line will consist of five new versions with varying color schemes. The case on all these versions will measure in at 43mm, but the materials change thru out the collection. Choices vary from a: stainless-steel alternate finishing case with black ceramic bezel and steel lugs; a black PVD steel alternate finishing case with black ceramic bezel and 18k rose gold lugs”; a black PVD steel alternate finishing case with 18k rose gold bezel and lugs; a black ceramic matte case with an alternate black ceramic bezel and ceramic matte black lugs; or a stainless-steel alternate finishing case with blue ceramic bezel and steel lugs.
In common all these watches feature: a transparent case back that allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement; are equipped with push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions, with a setting-crown in-between them; include fixed bezels are fixed with a tachymeter engraving; and are topped by a domed beveled sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment, which assists with keeping water-resistance on these pieces up to 100 meters (330 feet).
Time is exhibited on a skeletonized dial with applied hour index markers and sub-dial rings made of stainless-steel; except for the 18k gold rose model which uses that material for its markers and rings. A ring of white printed minute index markers with Arabic numerals for every five-minute increment, can be seen circling around the dial.
The sub-dials on these pieces are: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position; a sub-seconds at the 6 o’clock position; and a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock position. There is also a date aperture between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions.
