TAG Heuer has released a pair of new “Carrera Calibre 16” watches with several minor enhancements. Alterations were made to some case elements and dial. In essence this is still the timepiece that many aficionados have come to cherish, but these subtle retouches may usher in some new admirers or reengage former fans.

The 41mm case is made of stainless-steel with a mixture of fine-brushed and polished finish. On the flip-side we encounter a stamped case back inscribed with the collection name and a tire-track pattern, as a reference to the collection’s heritage. Mounted to the case is a black or blue bezel engraved with a tachymeter scale. The bezel appears to be larger on this updated edition because it no longer has a metal ring along the outer edge.

It also comes equipped with two push-pieces that operate the chronograph functions. In between the pushers is a setting-crown that has been upgraded with a black lacquer around the center and the TAG Heuer shield. These subtle modifications attribute the case with a sportier look. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides. Water-resistance on this watch can last up to 100 meters (330 feet).

Time is exhibited on either a: blue or black sun-ray brushed dial with rhodium-plated hour index markers, followed by smaller white printed minute index markers. Both dials have been given colorful accents running through the 12 o’clock marker to the 3 o’clock position; it is red on the black dial and orange on the blue dial version.

There is a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock position, a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position and a 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock position. The central stainless-steel hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. The long thin chronograph hand, as well as the sub-seconds have been highlighted with red-tips (black dial) or orange-tips (blue dial). There is also a white date aperture aligned with the 3 o’clock position, beside the TAG HEUER logo and with the CARRERA inscription underneath.
