Some horology brands need no introduction, while other brands gain a lot from their ambassadors and spokespeople. That’s the case for TAG Heuer which has been on the rise, ever since Jean-Claude Biver took over as CEO of the company. And after many new releases and synergies with athletes and celebrities. TAG Heuer focuses on one of their best-sellers, the Aquaracer.
Other great contributions and spectacles curated by CEO Biver, include the “Heuer 02T Tourbillion” which is now the most accessible tourbillion watch in the horology market place; the “TAG Heuer Connected” which brought the brand into the smartwatch category; the revival of the classic “Heuer Monza”; or the “TAG Heuer Aquarcer Caliber 16“. And now yet another classic is resurging in the form of this “Aquaracer” made of titanium.
The 43mm case is made of black PVD titanium with a ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel, for timing events and other activities. The bezel features black faceted ceramic inlays, engraved to match each color version with sand lacquered Arabic numerals and includes a SLN dot at the 12 o’clock position. Also includes a sandblasted black titanium carbide coated steel screw-in crown. The screw-in caseback is sandblasted black titanium carbide coated titanium with an engraving of a diving bell helmet.
Time is told via a matt black background dial with horizontal streak effects and accenting colors matching one of the three available overall color-schemes, which can be: blue, red or tan. The dial has been modified by now using the available colors of each model to highlight the index hour markers and hands, which also have a luminous coating, for enhanced legibility. The “TAG Heuer” can be seen under the 12 o’clock position, followed by “Aquarcer” inscribed slightly under it. Above the 6 o’clock position is an inscription indicating the caliber movement “caliber 5” and water-resistance info. There is also a magnified date aperture at the 3 o’clock position.
Though these may not be the best diver watches, due to their dark color scheme. They have been built to be water-resistance up to 980 feet, which is an appropriate capacity for this type of timepiece. And include luminous coating for the oceans dark depths. So, it’s a question of aesthetics and personal preference, because technically this timepiece has been made to fulfill its expectations.
