Following their collaboration with the maestro of customization George Bamford at this year’s Baselworld 2018, TAG Heuer had a vision. They’ve taken their “Aquaracer” model and given it an all dark black carbon treatment. This trio of new model “TAG Heuer Aquaracer Caliber 5 Carbon” will be available exclusively at brand boutiques and online.

We previously covered a different trio of “TAG Heur Aquaracer” also equipped with the caliber 5, but these models were crafted out of titanium with a ceramic bezel. You can take a quicker look at their full technical details and color schemes here.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer Black Titanium

So, as aforementioned these new “TAG Heuer Aquaracer Black Titanium” come in a 41mm case crafted out of black PVD coated grade 5 titanium with a transparent case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Mounted to the case is a carbon PVD coated unidirectional turning bezel, with a grey-tone 60-minute scale engraving that features Arabic numerals for every 10-minute increment.

It also comes equipped with a screw-in sand blasted steel black PVD setting-crown. Plus all topped by a sapphire crystal with an antireflective treatment, which assists with water-resistance on these watches being able to reach up to an impressive 300 meters (984 feet).

Time is exhibited on a dark carbon fiber pattern dial with faceted hour index markers, which have been lacquered and polished rose gold (for the red version) or plated black gold (for the yellow and blue toned versions).  Followed by smaller minute index markers that have been colored in either red (for the red version), yellow (for the yellow version); while the blue version has its minute index markers in grey, except for every 5-minute increment that’s been highlighted blue.

Besides theses varying sprinkles of color that manage to differentiate these three slightly distinct models from one another, while adding some lively colored highlights; the rest of the dial has a quite dark and somber look, although creatively nuanced due to the aforementioned carbon fiber pattern.

The central hands and gold plated hour index markers have all undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture at the 3 o’clock position.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer Carbon

These “TAG Heuer Aquaracer Caliber 5 Carbon” (References below) are powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 5 with 26 jewels and 28,800 Vph. It is based on the ETA 2824-2 (25 jewels) or Sellita (26 jewels). Power reserve on these watches can last up to 38 hours, when fully wound.

Mounted to these watches is a black nylon strap with exposed stitching matching each models differentiating color (except for the red version, which used black thread); while secured to the wrist by a sand-blasted and fine-brushed titanium black PVD coated folding clasp.
