At Baselworld 2018 watches were unveiled and drinks were served by Rolex. Those that have a taste for the sugary soda pop were quench by the “Pepsi Challenge”, while those of legal age sought out some “alcoholic punch” for their palate. Introducing the “Rolex GMT-Master II Everose Gold” with “Root Beer” bezel.
Thirst concerns aside for many horology aficionados the Rolex highlight at Baselworld 2018 was the new GMT-Master II “Pepsi” in stainless-steel that we reviewed here. But, many were equally impressed by the “Root Beer” bezel option that has also been ushered out at the prestigious Baselworld event.

The 40mm case is available in either a: 18k Everose gold or a Rolesor two-tone steel and 18k rose gold version, while both are composed of a monobloc middle case with a screw-down case back. Mounted to both cases is an 18k Everose gold bi-directional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel with a two-color brown and black Cerachrom insert in ceramic, which feature the engraved numerals and graduations. It’s this brown and black color scheme that earned this timepiece the “Root Beer” nickname.
Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II
These proprietary Rolex gold alloys have a subtle difference, but yet quite observable distinctions compared to the all-good versions Rolex has also manufactured of these watches. And just like in the “Pepsi” model the lugs and sides of this Oyster case have also been redesigned to accommodate this new edition. Topped by a sapphire crystal that includes a cyclops lens over the date. Plus equipped with a screw-down crown that has a Triplock triple waterproofness system, which assures water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).
Time is exhibited on a black dial with 18k Everose gold applied hour index markers in round, rectangular and a triangular shape at the 12 o’clock position. Circling the dial are also white printed minute index markers. The central hands, hour index markers and arrow-tip of the rose gold GMT hand, have all undergone a luminescent coating for an enhanced legality. There is also a date aperture at the 3 o’clock position with the aforementioned magnifying cyclops lens.
Rolex GMT-Master II Everose Gold
This “Rolex GMT-Master II Everose Gold” (References below) is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 3285 with 31 jewels and 28,800 Vph. COSC chronometer certified equipped with a Chronergy escapement patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Power reserve on this timepiece can last up to 70 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted to the watch is a bracelet matching each case, so it’s either 18k rose gold or a two-tone steel and 18k rose gold bracelet, while both are secured to the wrist by a folding Oysterlock safety clasp with Easylink 5mm comfort extension link. Which do you like best, the steel Pepsi or the two tone “Root Beer” with steel and everose gold?
Both are without a doubt great iconic watches. Personally, if I could only pick one; I’d probably go with the “Root Beer”. But, I also really like the red and blue of the “Pepsi”. It’s not an easy choice.
