There have been various “Rolex Cellini’ with differing complications and dials issued to the horology market. In 2015 they even debuted a “Rolex Cellini Time” with a diamond bezel. And 2016 sees Rolex usher in many more variations in 18k white or Everose gold. But, particularly modified was the new “Cellini Time” only, which has revamped their design for a nice white lacquered dial.
The Cellini model line is made up of three distinct models, the: Cellini Time, Cellini Date and Cellini Dual Time. Of these three options the “Cellini Dual Time” is the most complicated, with its capacity to exhibit two time-zones in a 12-hour format. Followed by the “Cellini Date” that includes the date on a ‘date dial’ instead of a typical date window with a loupe. And finally a stripped down version, the essence of a timeless classic, the “Cellini Time” simply displaying the hours, minutes and seconds, keeping ones focus and importance always in the present moment.
These timepieces have no “oyster case” similar to traditional Rolex timepieces. Instead the Cellini case is 39mm wide and with a water-resistance capable of reaching up to 50 meters. Less than half the resistance a typical Oyster case can handle, which is up to 100m underwater. The case is also available in either 18k white gold or Everose gold, with a polished finish.
There is also a mild fluting on the dial similar to what we find on a “Rolex Datejust” but here it’s not as pronounced, opting for a subtle touch. Actually the fluting on this watch is more similar to classic Rolex’s like the “Rolex Air-King”.
The original “Rolex Cellini Time” featured Roman numerals (Ref#:50509) with applied baton-style index hour markers that are “bisected” with a middle minute marker ring. A quite ingenious way of making a simple dial not appear quite as simple. Now, this most recent edition of the Cellini has opted to remove the Roman numerals and the Rolex crown logo previously situated at the 12 o’clock position.
Instead the logo has been moved down a bit towards the center of the dial, although still aligned with the 12 o’clock position. The Arabic numerals count down 60 minutes in 5 minute intervals, placed between the gaps of the elongated applique facet-cut baton-style hour index markers, with the 12 o’clock position being given double markers for enhanced legibility.
Its overall clear dial has “Cellini” written in cursive font near the center of the dial, aligned with the 6 o’clock position. There are a pair of faceted hands shaped like a two-edge sword, which count off each second, minute and hour with the full precision of the self-winding chronometer movement at the heart of this prestigious timepiece.
