As the New Year approaches, time also unveils more and more new releases destined for SIHH 2017. Parmigiani Fleurier in recent years has actively tried to allure younger people towards their brand, by issuing an affordable timepiece that encapsulates their major offerings.

The “Tonda Metro Collection” by Parmigiani Fleurier was first released in 2014. It was designed and conceived to appeal to a younger audience and bear a more affordable price tag. Now only two years later a “Tonda Métrographe” is begin updated with a major revamp to its dial and some minor adjustments to its overall case.

The 40mm case is made of stainless-steel with a fully polished finish and 0.5mm less thickness in relation to its two-year old predecessor. Its transparent sapphire caseback allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement, like the Côtes de Genève decoration seen on the bridges. There is also a crown between two pushers that operate the chronograph movements, on the right side of the case.

Time is exhibited on either an oxidized black or silvered white dial, both with index hour markers. Both models also have a luminescent coating on their hands and hour index markers, for an enhanced legibility. Now at a closer look, the black-dialed version features powdered rose gold highlights and 18k rose gold hands for the sub-dials and central chronograph seconds counter.

While, the white dialed version was given blue highlights and blued steel chronograph hands for pointing out its indications.

Still both these versions hold in common the engraved circular high and low, snailed decoration underneath the hour track and on the interior of their sub-dials. These details were achieved by using a chasing tool, which removes small amounts of material, laying tracks that add depth to the dial, resulting in a subtle concentric circular motif.

A date aperture can also be seen at the 12 o’clock position, although it was originally located on the opposite spectrum, at the 6 o’clock position. Other differences between this model and its former version, are the: resized sub-dials and central chronograph seconds counter; and the inclusion of a tachymeter scale, circling around the outer rim of the dial, near the bezel.
