Many of the hard-core Panerai fans either came, or were already aficionados before Sylvester Stallone got involved. But, there’s no doubt that his interest in Panerai watches spiked many others curiosity towards this Italian manufacturer. It even led to the term “Slytech” for the various special edition timepieces that Stallone would commission from them. Now, the opportunity to grab a “Slytech” watch is back, with the re-issue of the: Officine Panerai Luminor 8 Days Set, featuring the “Daylight” and “Black Seal” editions.
It was back in 2014 that Panerai first released a pair of watches in a single set, at the time commissioned by Sylvester Stallone. And now at this year’s SIHH 2016 Panerai comes at us with doubles again. In the form of two watches that can were made for distinct sides. Since the “Black Seal” version is a 44mm stainless steel destro model that has placed the crown and crown guard on the left side of the case, intended for lefties to wear it on their right wrist. While the “Daylight” is the traditional right-handed version with the crown of the watch on the right side of the case.
Panerai Luminor Daylight 8 Days
The “Panerai Luminor Daylight 8 Days”, reference PAM 786 is inspired by a 1986 model which featured a white dial with blue hands and index markers. And the dial on this version keeps most of the originals features, just like the sub-seconds dial at the 9 o’clock position and the Arabic numerals. The case is made of polished stainless steel and the watch is mounted to a blue alligator strap, with a sewn-in steel buckle, a characteristic reminiscent of the vintage models.
Panerai Luminor Black Seal Left-Handed 8 Days
While the “Panerai Luminor Black Seal Left-Handed 8 Days”, reference PAM 786, is also made of polished stainless steel, but with a black casing. The black dial has ecru colored hands and index markers, with Arabic numerals in the 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions. And features a sub-seconds dial in the 3 o’clock position. This also differs from the “Daylight” watch which features the Arabic numeral for the number 3 and the sub-seconds on the opposite side. Completing the left-hand, right-hand theme of this watch set.
Both these “Panerai Luminor 8 Days” which form this set are closed by a screw back, that feature the OP logo and the words “Officine Panerai Firenze” engraved on its case back. They are also both powered by the manual-wind mechanical movement, caliber P5000, with 21 jewels and a power reserve of 192 hours. As an extra bonus, these watches come in a special pear wood box, containing a model of the human torpedo and a rare publication about military equipment used in the Royal Italian Navy.
