Officine Panerai established its brand by producing maritime instruments for the military. And though they have moved on to a wider public, their aquatic roots remain. Be it as sponsors or partners to various yacht clubs, regattas or providing special edition timepieces for events such as the ‘35th America’s Cup’.
The ‘America’s Cup’ is the most prestigious sailing competition and one of the world’s oldest international sporting trophies. It consists of races between two sailing yachts; one is designated the “defender’ for currently holding the America’s Cup; while the second yacht is known as the “challenger”. Panerai’s CEO Angelo Bonati is also an active sailor, which only reassures the brands dedication to aquatic adventures.
These new “Panerai Luminor Marina 1950’s America’s Cup 3 Days” have a 44m case made of stainless-steel with a brushed finish and a solid case back that features an engraving of the ‘America’s Cup’. Also includes Panerai’s iconic crown guard, which assists in allowing water-resistance on this timepiece to reach up to 300 meters (984 feet).

Overall these new models are very similar to the previous PAM 1312 & PAM 312 models, although these came on a stainless-steel bracelet and weren’t special editions.
Time is exhibited on a black sandwich dial with the hour index markers and the Arabic numerals 6, 9 and 12. All numerals and hands have undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a sub-seconds dial at the 9 o’clock position with a red hand and a date aperture at the 3 o’clock position. Once again almost identical to the PAM 1312 & PAM 312 models, except these special editions have the phrase “America’s Cup” printed in blue near the 6 o’clock position.
Next up Panerai is also the official partner for ‘Softbank Team Japan’ which is competing in the Louis Vuitton Cup to determine who gets the chance to compete against ‘Oracle Team USA’ for the coveted ‘America’s Cup’.
On this competing model the case is made of stainless-steel with a solid case back that features an engraving of the ‘35th America’s Cup SoftBank Team Japan’. Basically this timepiece is exactly the same as the “Panerai Luminor Marina 1950’s America’s Cup 3 Days” and its same predecessors, except here the model is a tribute piece to the ‘Softbank Team Japan’, so they’ve engrave it on the case back. Water-resistance can reach up to 300 meters (984 feet).

Both the “Officine Panerai Luminor Marina 1950 America’s Cup 3 Days” (Ref#: PAM 727) and the “Officine Panerai Luminor Marina 1950 Softbank Team Japan 3 Days” (Ref#: PAM 723) are powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, caliber P.9010 with 31 jewels, 200 components and 28,800 Vph. Also features an Incabloc® anti-shock device and an Glucydur® balance. Power reserve can last up to 72 hours (3 days), when fully wound.
Mounted to these watches is a natural untreated black leather strap embossed with the logo of the ‘America’s Cup’. They only differ from each other on their exposed stitching which on the “Softbank Team Japan” is only white and on the “America’s Cup” is red and blue; while both are secured to the wrist by a stainless-steel pin buckle. These are special edition watches that will certainly have a limited production, although Panerai has yet to specify how many will be manufactured.
These timepieces also share the same MSRP of: $8,100.00 USD

Finally to sum up this nautical adventure Panerai is also offering an ‘Officine Panerai 44mm Luminor Marina Oracle Team USA 8 Days’ (Ref#: PAM724). It seems obviously inspired by the PAM 510, although with subtle modifications like: the “America’s Cup” phrase in blue near the 6 o’clock position or the running second hands also in blue, which is a motif found on most of these new Panerai’s.
Its 44mm case is made of stainless-steel with a solid case back featuring an engraving of the logo for “Oracle Team USA” , but unlike the other previously mentioned “Oracle Team USA” models, water-resistance on this model can reach up to 300 meters (998 feet).
Time is exhibited on a black sandwich dial with white hour index markers and the Arabic numerals 3, 6 and 12. All numerals and hands have undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a sub-seconds dial at the 9 o’clock position with a blue hand.
This “Officine Panerai Luminor Marina Oracle Team USA 8 days (Ref#: PAM 724) is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, caliber P.5000 with 21 jewels, 127 components and 21,600 Vph. Power reserve on this timepiece can last up to 192 hours (8 Days), when fully wound.
Mounted to these watches is a natural untreated black leather strap embossed with red and a bit of blue stitching and the logo of the ‘America’s Cup’; while secured to the wrist by a stainless-steel pin buckle. This will be a special limited edition watch of only 200 manufactured pieces.
