In honor of their long-term brand partnership Oris is back on the horology market with a new “Williams Formula One Racing Team” watch. It will be a limited edition conceived to celebrate the 41st anniversary of the iconic Williams F1 team competing at the highest level of the Formula One organization. Let’s take a closer look at the recently released “Oris Williams FW41 Limited Edition” timepiece.
We previously reviewed the “Oris ChronOris Williams 40th Anniversary (Ref#: 01 673 7739 4084-Set LS) that was also released in a limited edition run of only 1,000 manufactured pieces, which you can read more about here.
Although a decade celebration may seem like more of a milestone, it seems quite fitting that pilots commemorate each yearly calendar lap with a trophy of sorts. In the case of Oris that reward obviously would take on the form of a watch and so here we are cheering for the 41st year.
This new anniversary watch unlike its stainless-steel predecessor, now comes in a 44mm multi-piece case. The core mid-case is crafted out carbon fiber which weighs in at a mere 7.2 grams, which provides a very light weight; while mounted to the case is a black DLC plated titanium bezel.
On the flipside we have a solid screwed-down black plated titanium case back, which features some special engravings of a racecar, plus the inscriptions “FW41” and “ORIS WILLIAMS LIMITED EDITION; besides the unique individual number of each of these limited edition pieces and some technical details.
It also comes equipped with two black DLC plated titanium pushers that operate the chronograph functions and a setting-crown in-between them. All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective inside coating, which assists with water-resistance on this watch being able to reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).
Time is exhibited on a black carbon fiber dial that seamlessly prolongs the case pattern, with two large metal applique Arabic numerals for 3 and 9 o’clock; while an inner track contains a 60-minute track with two-digit numerals for each five-minute increment.
While further out the dials circumference is a ring of small white printed second index markers, followed by longer thin minute markers and thick square hour index marker to provide a quicker time-read.
There are three white ringed sub-dials: a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock position, a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position and 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock position. Two of the sub-dials and the chronograph have been given blue hands, as a direct reference to the Williams Formula One Racing Team’s official colors. There is also a date aperture at the six o’clock position, with a semi-exposed date running up the right half side of the dial. The central hands have been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
