Omega has been on a series of themed releases lately. Barely a month after they released the “Speedy Tuesday ‘Ultraman’”, which was their second collaboration with another online horology blog. Omega returns to market yet again with a collaboration piece celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Hodinkee watch blog, introducing the “Omega Speedmaster HODINKEE 10th Anniversary” limited edition watch.
As aforementioned this is not the first Omega collaboration with a horology blog. The trendy “#SpeedyTuesday” hashtag was begun by the “Fratello Watches” horology blog. A moniker than grow outside of their little niche and spread throughout the horology community, which eventually lead to a collaboration between Omega and Fratello in the form of the “Omega Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday” (Ref#: 311.32.42.30.01.001) which we reviewed here.
Their venture proved so successful selling out the limited edition stock, almost immediately. That it lead quickly lead to another collaboration of the aforementioned “Omega Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday 2 ‘Ultraman’” (Ref#: 3111.32.42.30.01.001) which we also reviewed here.

Now in less than a month Omega once again engages in yet another “Speedmaster” collaboration between themselves and the online horology blog known as “Hodinkee”. This release is intended to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the renowned horology publication, which recently began publishing a magazine in print version of their writings.
The founder of Hodinkee, Ben Clyder was given an “Omega Speedmaster Mk40” by his grandfather as a teenager, which began a lifelong love for timepieces that led to his horology publication. That patriarchal gift also explains the significance of why the chosen model for yet another Omega collaboration with a blog ended up being a “Speedmaster” model.

Its 39.7mm case has been made out of stainless-steel with a closed steel back, which features the Omega Hippocampus medallion and special “HODINKEE 10th Anniversary” engraving, including the unique number for each of these limited edition pieces.
Mounted to the case is a black aluminium bezel with a tachymeter scale engraving on it. Also comes equipped with two push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions, with a setting-crown in-between them. All topped by a scratch resistant sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance on this watch being able to reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).
Time is exhibited on a dark blue/grey dial (almost black) with Arabic numerals, followed by a ring of white printed white minute index markers, while further out of this ring towards the bezel are two-digit Arabic numerals for every 5-minute increment.
There are three sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position, a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock position and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position with a dual-sided hand for reading 30-second intervals. The hour and minute sub-dials feature special red arrow hands, while the running seconds register has been painted blue and black as a nod to the day/night indicator of the MK40 model.
This watch has several different era Speedmaster elements scatter about. Its aforementioned 39.7mm case size is the classical proportions of the 1960’s ref. 2998, while the chronograph seconds hands is red with a yellow tip, as seen on several 1970’s Speedmaster models. The central hands and hour numerals have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
