BLOG - Omega x2 SeaMaster&SpeedMaster

Omega keeps wanting to mix things up with the use and mixture of atypical materials. This new version of their “Seamaster” model line is packed with rubber, titanium and other elements. Baselworld 2016 has Omega launching many updated models with their METAS certified movements. While, another reboot is an Omega Speedmaster, with a new dial, but still operating off the original manual-winding Moonwatch movement.

The 43.5mm chronometer is made of titanium, with a gray silicon nitride rubber bezel insert with Omega LiquidMetal for the orange minute-scale. The first fifteen minutes of the ceramic bezel are highlighted in orange and mixed with the silicon nitride rubber. The caseback has an elegant wavy pattern on it. Also has a screw-down crown and its helium escape valve pusher near the 10 o’clock position. The escape valve protects the watch in case you want to test its water-resistance, which can reach up to 600 meters (2,000 feet).

The Omega logo is also in white under the 12 o’clock position, while the “Seamaster” designation is written in orange on the dial. The hour, minute and seconds hands are all white with grey outlining and a luminous coating; while the seconds hand also has an orange tip for enhanced legibility. There is also a black date window at the 3 o’clock position.

Another Omega update for Baselworld 2016 is the “Omega Speedmaster CK2998” in a limited edition. This new version of the Speedmaster model line, keeps the same mechanical movement, but has altered the dial with a new vibrant color scheme. With so many distinctive versions of the “Speedmaster” already out there. The option to keep a classic movement and splash new colors on it, is a simple yet effective decision by Omega.

The 39.7mm wide case is made of stainless-steel with a mixture of polished and brushed finish. Also features a polished blue ceramic bezel with a white SuperLuminova tachymeter scale on it. The crown and pushers to activate the chronograph functions are all located on the right-side of the watch, near the 2, 3 and 4 o’clock positions. And the screw-down caseback exhibits the classic “Speedmaster Seahorse” emblem. Overall it’s the traditional layout for this watch, with some new colors thrown in the mix.
