To many the “Volvo Ocean Race” is considered the longest and toughest sailing team challenge in the sport. And the brave athletes that decide to undergo this challenge in 2018 will be receiving an extra prize, as the renowned merchant of the sea returns with new goods. Introducing the new “Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black Volvo Ocean Race” limited edition.

With the consolidation of this partnership Omega has officially tied its self to the Triple Crown of sailing’s top events. The most prestigious competitions in sailing can now be linked back to Omega. For they have been the Official Timekeeper at the Olympic Games on 27 different occasions; while also carrying out a 23-year partnership with Emirates Team New Zealand and supporting the America’s Cup; and now they’ve partnered up with the “Volvo Ocean Race”.

This new “Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black ‘Volvo Ocean Race’” comes in a 45.5mm case made out of black ceramic with a solid case back that features the written engravings: “DEEP BLACK”, “PLANET OCEAN”, “NAIAD LOCK” and the “VOLVO OCEAN RACE” logo in the middle, amongst a wavy pattern.

Mounted to the case is a black ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel with red rubber used on the first 15-minutes, while the rest of the dive-time scale has been engraved with Liquidmetal. More instances of red rubber can be found: on the two chrono-pushers that serve to activate the chronograph movement; on the Omega logo seen on the setting crown; and also on the “He” symbol for the helium escape valve pusher seen at the 10 o’clock position.

Time is exhibited on a brushed black ceramic dial with large 18k white gold applied hour index markers, followed by smaller white printed minute index markers circling around the dial, plus red Arabic numerals for the: 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions. The arrow-style central hands have also been crafted out of 18k white gold, except for the red chronograph hand in their midst.

It also features two sub-dials: a 12-hour counter at the 3 o’clock position and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. The 12-hour counter has red sub-hands and a red rim that reads: “VOLVo OCEAN RACE 2017/2018”, “LIMITED EDITION” plus the unique numeral for each of these limited edition piece. The central hands, hour index marker and sub-hands have all been fitted with a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture at the 6 o’clock position.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black ‘Volvo Ocean Race’

This “Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black ‘Volvo Ocean Race’” (Ref#: is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 9900 with 54 jewels and 28,800 Vph. Power reserve on this watch can last up to 60 hours, when fully wound.


Mounted to the watch is a black rubber strap with exposed red stitching and a red rubber inlay, while secured to the wrist by a ceramic pin buckle.
