The battle for lightest timepiece continues as Omega introduces their latest lightweight mechanical sports watch contender in the competition. They claim these upcoming “Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra Light” releases made out of gamma titanium can weigh less than 55 grams, when attached to their provided fabric strap.

The 41mm case is made of an alloy called “Gamma Titanium”, which is a strong yet lightweight material used in the aeronautical industry. The use of gamma titanium is a first for Omega, as they carve the path forward in terms of innovative lightweight materials. Mounted to the case is a ceramic bezel that has been crafted out of its own unique color for this “Ultra Light” edition, so the bezel matches the titanium case and dial perfectly.

On the flip-side is a transparent exhibition case back, which Omega cleverly opted for in order to further reduce the amount of material used on the back of the dial, helping to lessen its weight and more deservedly so own its “ultra light” statement.

It comes equipped with a push-in crown, you read right: not a “screw-in crown”, but instead a “push-in crown”. This is also first watch Omega has released with what they have dubbed a “telescopic crown”, which can be stowed inside the case when not in use.

This ergonomic function delivers added comfort during game-time and ensures that nothing gets in the way of your hands.

All topped by a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with ant-reflective treatment on both sides. Water-resistance on these watches can reach up to 150 meters (500 feet).

Time is exhibited on a grey striped dial that has been crafted from a sandblasted grade 5 titanium, then made to feature stripes in negative relief. This sort of dial is very reminiscent of the classic Aqua Terra design, but comes with it’s own unique sporty look.

It features hour index markers, while circling around the periphery of the dial is a 60-minute ring with double-digit numerals for every 5-minute increment. This watch comes in three almost identical versions, except for an added differentiating color of either: red, blue or green; which have been applied to the cursive “Seamaster” inscription, the central aluminum seconds hand, each quarter hour numeral marking and each versions strap stitching.

The central gamma titanium hands and hour index markers, as well as the arrow tip of the aluminum seconds hand have all been fitted with a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility.

Mounted to the watch is a rubber strap with exposed stitching matching the differentiating color (red, blue, or green) of each version, while secured by a gamma titanium buckle. These watches also come with an additional sporty black fabric strap, which as aforementioned Omega states when worn renders the weight of the timepiece to a mere 55 grams.
