The “Ryder Cup” is a biennial men’s golf competition set between teams from Europe and the United States, established back in 1927. It occurs every two in two years with the host venue alternating between the two continents. The competition was named after the English businessman Samuel Ryder who was an entrepreneur who garnered most of his wealth by originating the idea of selling garden seeds in “penny packets”. Later in life at the age of 50 he became a very enthusiastic golfer and began sponsoring various types of tournaments with other acquaintances. The upcoming ”Ryder Cup” will begin September 28th, 2018 in France, for more up to date information visit their official website here.
The 41mm case is made of stainless-steel with a transparent case back that allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Coated directly on the case backs sapphire crystal is the “Ryder Cup” logo in 24k yellow gold. The case back also has the patent pending “NAIAD LOCK” which guarantees its correct securing position.
Mounted to the case is a stainless-steel bezel with a polished finish and it also comes equipped with a screw-in crown. All topped by a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides, which also assists with water-resistance on this watch reaching up to 150 meters (500 feet).
Time is exhibited on a silver opaline dial with a horizontal-striped “teakwood” motif, plus blue triangular wedge-style hour index markers. A ring of smaller minute index markers with double-digit Arabic numerals alternating between red for every fifteen-minute increment and blue for every intermediate five-minute increment can also be seen circling around the dial.
The Omega logo can be seen on the upper-half of the dial in 18k gold with “Seamaster” printed in red with its standard cursive font. While the central hands, hour index markers and the tip of the 18k gold second hand have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture at the 6 o’clock position.
