With summer heating up and about to officially begin, IWC continues to celebrate their 150th anniversary. But, instead of another enamel dial or historic reproduction, IWC has opted for a more casual release this time. Introducing the new: IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph “Summer Edition”.
In the past we’ve taken a closer look at the “IWC 43mm Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph ‘Boesch’ Edition” (Ref#: IW390504) with a unique mahogany colored red dial in a limited edition of only 150 manufactured pieces, which you can read more about here.

Or, the more classically appealing “IWC Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph (Ref#: IW3902-09) that came equipped with the historically innovative Albert Pellaton, caliber 899361. It’s also been designed with a unique black ardoise dial in a sunburst finish. “IWC Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph (Ref#: IW3902-09)
Now, unlike these dressier “Yacht Club” options by IWC, this new “summer edition” has a much more sportier and casual everyday watch feel to it. While still packing the aforementioned historic Albert Pellaton caliber, a true IWC workhorse movement, which can be viewed in all its intricacies via a transparent exhibition case back.

The case size for the “summer edition” is also somewhere in between the previously mentioned models, coming in at 43.5mm and made of stainless steel. It comes equipped with two push-pieces that activate the chronograph functions; plus an integrated screw-in crown which is surround by crown guards. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal with a dual anti-reflective coating, which assists with water-resistance on this watch reaching up to 60 meters (200 feet).
Time is exhibited on a blue dial with stainless-steel applied Arabic numerals with a white printed rail-road motif minute index ring. Followed by a white quarter-second scale circling the flange with black printed minute index markers with Arabic numerals for every five minute increments, except for the 60 numeral which is in red for an increased legibility.

There are also two sub-dials: a white sub-seconds that has a “Yacht Club” inscription at the 6 o’clock position; plus it features a flyback function sub-dial with aggregate timing of up to 12 hours at the 12 o’clock position, which has also highlighted the 60 & 12-numerals in red. It comes equipped with rhodium-plated central hands and a long red chronograph hand. There is also a date aperture at the 3 o’clock position.

IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph
This “IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph Sumer Edition” (Ref#: IW390507) is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, caliber 89361 with 38 jewels and 28,800 Vph. Power reserve on this watch can last up to 68 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted to the watch is a blue rubber strap, secured to the wrist by a stainless-steel folding clasp. A seasonal collection of NATO fabric straps havw been made available by IWC for a limited time only, for this “summer edition”, as well as other IWC models.
