IWC unveiled several new pilot themed watches at SIHH 2019. For this particular new edition to their Pilots’ collection in the “Top Gun” model line, IWC has found inspiration in the driest desert in North America: the Mojave Desert.
The 44.5mm case is made of beige colored ceramic with a screw-on stainless-steel case back, which features an engraving of the “Top Gun” logo with the inscriptions: “UNITED STATES NAVY” and “MOJAVE DESERT”; plus the unique limited edition number of each individual timepiece.
It comes equipped with two stainless-steel push-pieces to operate the chronograph and stop-watch features; with a steel setting-crown in-between them. All topped by a convex sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water-resistance on this watch is capable of reaching up to 60 meters (196 feet).
Time is exhibited on a dark brown dial with Arabic numerals, followed by beige-toned minute index markers and slightly thicker markers for every 5-minute increment, except for the 12 o’clock position that features IWC’s iconic triangle with two dots.
There are three sub-dials: a sub-seconds at the 6 o’clock position; the 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock position; and a 30-minute counter at the 12 o’clock spot. While aligned with the 3 o’clock spot is a double-window for day-date, in between the IWC SCHAFFHAUSEN logo. The central dagger-style hands, sub-seconds hands, Arabic numerals and index markers have all undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
IWC Pilot’s Chronograph Top Gun “Mojave Desert” Edition
The “IWC Pilot’s Chronograph Top Gun “Mojave Desert” Edition” (Ref#: IW389103) is powered by a self-winding in-house mechanical movement, caliber 69380 with 33 jewels, 231 components and 28,800 vph. This is a variation of the chronograph family with display for both the day as well as the date. Power reserve on this watch can last up to 48 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted to the watch is a beige textile strap, secured to the wrist by a stainless-steel folding clasp. This is a limited edition of only 500 manufactured pieces. For more up to date information visit the official IWC Schaffhausen website here.
