Back in January at SIHH 2019 we were overwhelmed by so many new releases by IWC Schaffhausen, as they unveiled a series of new pilot watches from various model lines. Now they are following up with new releases in their other notable collections, like this “IWC Ingenieur Perpetual Digital Date-Month” now available in titanium.

These new current Ingenieur models have been crafted to more accurately resemble their original 1960’s versions. On this updated example the 45mm case is made of titanium with a transparent sapphire exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. On the outer titanium rim of this case back IWC has inscribed some technical details, as well as the unique number for each of these limited edition timepieces.

It comes equipped with flat chronograph pushers and a screw-in setting-crown in-between them. The grade 5 titanium applied here is a material used in modern automobile engines and varied aerospace components. All topped by a convex shaped sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 120 meters (393 feet).

Time is exhibited on a grey sunburst finish dial with alloy applied baton-style hour index markers, followed by small printed white seconds and minute markings. Circling around the periphery of the dial is a white printed tachymeter scale.

The perpetual calendar is spread out over four sub-dials. Large windows have been properly labeled to showcase the current “MONTH” at 3 o’clock and “DATE” at 9 o’clock. While a sub-seconds that also includes a white aperture indicating the current leap year, can be seen at the 6 o’clock spot.  There is also a pair of hour and minute counters that have been combined in a totalizer at the 12 o’clock position.

This watches movement has been designed to automatically recognize the different lengths of months and the leap years; so if the watch is always kept properly running, it shouldn’t need of any adjustments until the year 2100. Besides the perpetual calendar function, this watch has also been equipped with a flyback chronograph function.
