Once again Hublot recruits artsy talent to give a new spin on one of their established watch models, the “Classic Fusion”. This time around they’ve teamed up with one of the top street and muralist artists in the world, Tristan Eaton. Such a combination could only end up on some type of concrete.
Such collaborations reinforce Hublot’s mission statement to “Be First, Be Different, Be Unique”. And to actually incorporate concrete elements into the bezel of this new timepiece, is to do just that. Delivering an avant-garde watch unique to their catalogue and the horology market itself.
The 45mm case is made from microblasted black ceramic, while the bezel is made out of concrete mixed with epoxy resin to increase the robustness of the base material and is secured by black PVD polished titanium screws. This option to apply such unusually elements to a timepiece was due to its “concrete jungle” theme, since it wants to be a homage to New York City, which has been a sprawling canvas for Tristan Eaton’s endeavors.
The transparent caseback has a collage motif depiction of the “Statue of Liberty” that has been created by Tristan Eaton and printed on the sapphire crystal caseback; while the artist’s emblem is on the sub-dial at the 3 o’clock position.
Time is exhibited on a black openworked dial with hour index markers. It has a sub-seconds at the 3 o’clock position and a 30-minute counter at the 9 o’clock position. There is also a date aperture at the 6 o’clock spot.
Tristan Eaton, originally from Los Angeles, is best known for his large scale murals and collage-type type art, both of which manage to offer a unique view of each represented subject. Mostly his technique boils down to freehand spray paint on a large scale. So, basically old school graffiti art in an appropriately sanctioned space. Top brands such as: Google, Nike and Disney among others, have commissioned his work. And besides having his artwork spread over some of the top cities in the world, he also has a permanent collection at MOMA.
For this Hublot special edition the artist has seen one of his signature mural collage drawings of the “Statue of Liberty”, be added to the caseback of this collection of only 50 timepieces via a micro-blasted engraving.
