Hublot has been committed to soccer (which the rest of the world calls football) for over ten years. Some of their official brand ambassadors include: Diego Maradona, Alex Ferguson, José Mourinho, Scolari, Xherdan Shaqiri, Trézéguet amongst others. They’ve also issued watches for teams, like: Ajax, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Juventus and Paris Saint-German. As well as having been the Official Timekeeper for the World Cup, the Champions League, the Europa League and the EURO back in 2008, 2012 and now returning for 2016. The living soccer legend Pelé, who is also a Hublot ambassador, even attended the recent inauguration of the brands new flagship store in New York. Hence one of their mottoes being “Hublot Loves Football”.
This 45mm case is made of satin-finished and polished black ceramic. While the bezel maintains the black ceramic, with some white composite resin on the lower bezel and secured by titanium H-shaped screws. The exhibition caseback allows to see the caliber HUB1261 movement inside. And the sapphire glass with interior anti-reflective treatment features a EURO 2016 logo. Also the caseback has been engraved with the limited edition number of each piece.
The chosen red, white and blue colors, could be a direct inspiration from the American flag, but we’re in Europe, so it’s actually a French homage. Or neither, since the official website describes the dial as being colored: mat opalin, black and dark blue. But, there are red accents on the strap and the dial, where we can read “EXTRA TIME” and “ADDED TIME”, plus there’s a red hand. Time is told with Arabic numerals on an off-set dial located above the 6 o’clock position., while near the 9 o’clock position is a sub-seconds dial.
It’s very similar in design to the “Hublot Big Bang Unico Chronograph Retrograde UEFA Champions League” (Ref#: 413.CX.7123.LR.UCL16) which was also a limited edition of only 100 produced pieces. And keeps the 45m intervals just like on the “Hublot Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Chrono Ceramic Carbon” (Ref#: 412.CQ.1127.RX) which was the first one to include it, for the official 2014 FIFA World Cup watch. While using the same mechanical movement that was adapted for the “Hublot Big Bang Unico Chronograph Kobe ‘Vino’ Bryant” (Ref#: 413.OX.4738.PR.KOB15) only his was set to 15m intervals, for basketball aficionados.
