The German brand Glashütte is celebrating its 15th year partnership with the Dresden Music Festival, by adding some new editions to their Sixties model line. For those allured by this unique dial, it can be had in a time-only or a “Sixties Panorama Date”.

To simply say this is a green dial does not give praise where praise is due. Glashütte has really created something special here. It is a vibrant lacquered metallic green that manages to be quite memorable, as its tone seems to shift from dark to bright when the light hits it in certain ways. To achieve this besides the colors hue Glashütte has also added some shine and texture to the mix. The end result in our opinion is one of the most unique dials the brand has ever produced, despite its apparent simplicity on paper.

For those who enjoy classical music, as well as world music and jazz the “Dresden Music Festival” is an annual music festival which takes place in Dresden, Germany; hence its name. This festival was established by government decree in 1978 when Dresden still integrated the German Democratic Republic. The German cellist Jan Vogler has been the artistic director since 2009 and traditionally the festival is built around a specific theme, which changes each year. For 2019 the Dresden Festival will be celebrating its 42nd edition and tickets can be found here.

Glashütte’s original music festival awards began being awarded in 2004, with a case value of 25,000 euros. It serves to honor outstanding personalities of the music world with special achievements in the field of music education. Previous winners have included: the Portuguese Fado singer Mariza, the American singer Joyce DiDoanto and most recently the British cellist Steven Isserlis.

The time-only version comes in a 39mm case made out of stainless-steel; while, the “Panorama Date” model comes in a 42mm. Both versions have a raised sapphire crystal case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement.

It comes equipped with a setting-crown and stubby, long protruding lugs that are slightly curved for a comfortable wrist fit. All topped by a domed sapphire crystal that also assists with water-resistance reaching up to 30 meters (96 feet).

In essence both these “Glashütte Sixties” are almost identical, beside one of them including a date composition and being housed in a slightly bigger case. So, in similar both have their time exhibited on a green and black varnish dial with a dégradé effect. Plus stainless-steel applied hour index markers and the Arabic numerals for the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions. These numerals have also been fashioned in a uniquely styled font.

Also circling around the dial in the darker circumference where the green fades into black are white printed minute index markers, with white dots for every five-minute increment. Underneath the 12 o’clock position is the “Glashütte Original” logo, while above the 6 o’clock position is the “Glashütte USA” inscription.

The stainless-steel central hour, minute and second’s hand, as well as the dotted hour index markers have been fitted with a luminescent filling, for an enhanced legibility. Plus the “Sixties Panorama Date” version features a duo disc date positioned on the central vertical axis, on the lower half of the dial; which allows to add the black date aperture.
