In a sea of Swiss made watches this German brand keeps carving out its own niche in the horology industry. Although known for their classical aesthetics, in recent years Glashütte has been consistently widening their spectrum of appeal with a younger audience in mind. Another well-crafted step in that direction comes in the form of this “Glashütte Original Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar Skeletonized”.

For those more traditional fans of Glashütte a different yet similar option that comes to mind is the “Glashütte Original Senator Moon Phase Skeletonized” (Ref#: 1-49-13-15-04-30) which you can read more about here.
While an even simpler and more restraint option for those that appreciate the “Senator Collection” model line, can be found in the “Glashütte Original Senator Cosmopolite” (Ref#: 1-89-02-03-02-01) stainless-steel watch that we reviewed here during Baselworld 2018.
As for this new “Glashütte Original Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar Skeletonized” it comes in a 42mm case made of 18k white gold with a mixture of brushed and polished finishing, while on the flip-side it has a transparent case back that allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement.
It comes equipped with a setting-crown aligned at the 3 o’clock position and the perpetual calendar system is adjusted via three inset pushers found on the left side of the case. All topped by a sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance on this watch being able to reach up to 50 meters (164 feet).
Time is exhibited on a partially skeletonized open-worked dial with rhodium-plated applique hour index markers, plus a wide black disc ring circling its circumference. Farthest out nearing the bezel is a white rail-road motif ring with minute index markers, spaced in-between two-digit blue Arabic numerals for every five-minute increment.
While on the main plate in the center of dial has an elaborate guilloche decoration, with a very alluring spiral design pattern. The perpetual calendar elements are scattered in its midst with three apertures: the day is aligned with the 10 o’clock positon; the month is aligned with 2 o’clock positions and the larger “panorama” aperture holding the date is located near the 4 o’clock position.
The color-scheme is predominately dark, with black hues, shades of grey and subtle blue highlights. These blues come in the form of the blued steel central hands, small Arabic numerals, Moonphase sky and the power reserves sub-dial hand. The trademark running-seconds hands features a counter-weight with the Glashütte logo.
There is also a Moonphase disc placed between the 7 and 8 o’clock positions, plus the aforementioned power-reserve has been aligned with the 12 o’clock position, underneath the “Glashütte Original” logo.
