The German horology brand Glashütte is renowned for very formal and functional designs, but this latest offering has a much welcomed buoyant appeal to it. Introducing the “Glashütte Original Senator Chronograph Panorama”.

Back in 2014 Glashütte had introduced this exact model with their very own self-winding chronograph movement, caliber 37-01, but in an 18k rose gold & platinum version. Now for 2017 they return with it in stainless steel and equipped with a screw-down crown, which extends its water-resistance to double from 50 to now a 100 meter (330 feet) capability.

Plus swapping the white dial for a black dial with blue lume has in essence given this timepiece a new life and wider target market. Even a category shift from a “dress watch” to a trustworthy high-end “sports watch”.

The 42mm case is made of stainless-steel with a transparent case back that allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. Comes equipped with to two pushers to the right-side of the case which operate the chronograph functions, with a screw-down crown in between them that features the double G-logo on it.

The alternating polished and satin-brushed finishes on the casing, attributes this timepiece with a more nuanced look. Topped by a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal which also assists with water-resistance on this watch reaching up to 100 meters (330 feet).

Time is exhibited on a black dial with hour index markers and Roman numerals for the 6 and 12 o’clock positions; followed by smaller white minute index markers with a railroad motif. The previous rose gold and platinum versions had Roman Numerals circling the whole dial. There are three sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position, a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position and a 12-hour counter at the 12 o’clock position.

The hands, hour index markers and Roman numerals have all undergone a bright blue luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. Its very colorful blue radiance lume on this black, deserves more than a second glance when the night or dark conditions immerse it. Also includes a date aperture aligned with the 6 o’clock position.
