A new partnership has sparked up between Chopard and Zagato, which has led to the creation of yet another Mille Miglia themed chronograph. Both these luxury brands in their respective fields of horology and car design; have had an ongoing involvement with the classic Italian vintage motorsport event that has now led to this combined effort in the form of the: “Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Zagato 100th Anniversary”.

Zagato, is named after Andrea Zagato. He is a well-established car designer who currently presides over the last independent coachbuilding company and total design center known for executing designs for major luxury automobile brands, such as: Ferrari, Porsche, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, among others as you can learn more about here.

The company was originally founded a century ago in 1919, by Ugo Zagato, near Milan, in Italy. After his passing in 1968 the company remained within the family, with operations being continued out by his children, and consecutive descendants up to the present day.

The 42mm case is made of stainless-steel with a transparent exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. This screw-on flip-side has its sapphire crystal engraved with the inscription “ZAGATO” and “100 | Cento” to mark the anniversary; while on the steel periphery we find the iconic red Mille Miglia road sign arrow in red and the unique number for each of these limited editions.

It comes equipped with two push-pieces that activate the chronograph functions, with a setting-crown in-between them. A race-car steering wheel can be seen crafted on to the setting-crown. All topped by a sapphire crystal that also assists with water-resistance on this watch reaching up to 50 meters (164 feet).

Time is exhibited on a red-lacquered dial mixed with a pattern of Zagato’s emblematic “Z” logo. This same “Z” in a larger version has been placed at the 12 o’clock position. It has a mixture of long baton style and dotted hour index markers, all accompanied by a ring of white printed minute index markers. A white printed tachymeter scale can be seen circling around the circumference of the dial.

There are three sub-dials: a sub-seconds at 3 o’clock position; a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock; and a 30-minute counter at the 9 o’clock position. The central stainless steel hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a white date aperture placed between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions.
