For this year’s Baselworld 2016 the Italian brand Bvlgari unveiled some new versions of its “Octo Ultranero” watch, in its “very black” versions. This model line originally debuted in 2014, but has evolved into various editions. So, get ready to feast your eyes on this years: Octo Solotempo, Octo Velocissimo and Octo Finissimo Tourbillon.
Since the main focus seems to have been on the case design, the dial on theses Bulgari watches are pretty modest, with their overall “very black” colors that are livened up by the contrasting 18k pink gold hands, index markers and other elements, depending on the model.
So, this case design is definitely the key feature of theses timepieces. The way it manages to mix and match all these angles and curves in both a balanced, yet unique way. Bvlgari is aiming for a certain legacy with this timepiece, in the realm of the “Audemars Piguet Royal Oak”, which curiously enough, was also designed by Gerald Genta. The Gerald Genta brand was acquired by Bvlgari a few years ago and this is just one of the fine design they’ve assimilated.
The “Octo Solotempo” is the simplest version of this model line. It features the Arabic 12 and 6 numerals. And there is a date aperture located at the 3 o’clock position. White minute markers are also located between each five minute index marker interval. The logo is also printed in the center of the dial with white colored lettering.
The 41mm case is made of 18k pink gold and features a transparent sapphire crystal caseback. Elegance is subtle, but no doubt an aura of Gérald Genta seems to transpires from this timepieces design, even in its simplest version. An accomplishment produced through cooperative synergies, since both these horology brands belong to the LVMH luxury group (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton). Various conglomerates that came together through phases, which ended up in this configuration with this designation and is headed by Christian Dior.
