Back in 1975 in the midst of the dreaded “quartz crisis” which lead many watch manufactures to ruins. Two brothers actually set sail against the tides and announced their first men’s watch. Nicola and Paolo, the Bulgari brothers, took a look at their heritage and were inspired by the ancient Roman coin, the Sestertius.

Reviving the tradition of engraving the rulers name in coins and using the same font letters from that time period. Shaped their men’s watch in that coins form and etched it’s bezel with: “BVLGARI” and “ROMA”.

Since that crowning achievement 40 year have gone by. The “quartz crisis” came and went like other plagues, and the strong survived. To celebrate such a round occasion, Bvlgari has announced a tribute watch, introducing the: “Bulgari Roma Finissimo Tourbillon”.

The watch has a 41mm rose-gold case with “BVLGARI” and “ROMA”, once again engraved on the bezel. It’s a slim watch all around, with a thickness of 5.40mm, which allow for a very discreet and elegant dress watch. The crown is also slender with a black ceramic insert (to match the dial) and keeps a symmetrical feel to the timepiece. Mounted to the watch is a brown alligator strap with a pin-buckle.

Once we arrive at the dial, utter simplicity comes to mind. Excluding the rose-gold lettering which exhibit the “Bvlgari” logo. The dial is all black, with rose-gold hands, index hour markers, and the Roman numeral 12 at the top. And then the tourbillon at the 6 o’clock position, which is the special feature that highlights this piece and helped name it. The tourbillion is the novelty of this piece, whose small revolving carriage housing the escapement, allows the balance wheel to release the movement from the grasp pf gravity, enhancing the isochronism of the balance wheel. This element significantly enhances the accuracy pf the timepiece.
