For those in seek of an ultra-compact watch with an aviation theme, while retaining a slight feeling of “exclusivity”, look no further! Breitling has just released their first boutique edition “Super Avenger 01“.

That isn’t even the only first for this timepiece. Just like the watches name indicates its been finally equipped with the celebrated Breitling in-house caliber B01 movement. So, that novelty along with the first time this watch has been issued in an exclusive “boutique” edition, having a limited run of only 100 produced pieces, makes it all the more unique. We’ve also reviewed other “Avenger” models in the past such as the smaller 45mm “Avenger II Seawolf” or the “Avenger Hurricane” small edition; as well as the “Chronoliner Boutique” edition; but none of those packed the B01 caliber.

The 48mm case is made of stainless-steel with a solid case back, featuring a vintage-look pin-up and “Special delivery” engraving inscription. Mounted to the case is a stainless-steel ratcheted uni-directional rotating bezel, with a luminous pip at the 12 o’clock position; plus engraved 5-minute indicators to track elapsed time. Equipped with a screw-locked crown that’s been designed with a traced pattern to provide a secure grip. While the also screw-in push-piece guards that operate the chronograph function have been set with an uneven rectangular pattern, reminiscent of a brick layered wall, which allows for an easier grip.

At 48mm in diameter this is one of the larger models offered by Breitling, only second in size to the “Emergency” model.

Its ultra-sturdy construction made with the most extreme military missions in mind, transpires an imposing and professional quality. All topped by a cambered sapphire crystal that has been glare-proofed on both sides. And with the assistance of the aforementioned screw-down crown this watch has a water-resistance that can reach up to 300 meters (1000 feet).

Time is exhibited on a volcano black dial with stainless-steel applied hour index markers, followed by smaller printed white minute index markers circling around the dial. There are three sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position; a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock position; and finally a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. The central hands and hour index markers have all been fitted with a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture between the 4 and 5 o’clock position.

It features a color-scheme with tone-on-tone counters, to contrast the sub-dials from the dark black background. Further nuances come in the form of red highlighted portions of the minute index markers, found in the 30-minute counter. Plus a red inscription reading “Edition limitée” above the 12 hour counter and a red chronograph hand.

Breitling Super Avenger 01 Boutique Edition
This “Breitling Super Avenger 01 Boutique Edition” (Ref#: AB01901A|BF88|168A) is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement in-house Breitling caliber B01 with 47 jewels and 28,800 vph. It features a column wheel chronograph with a vertical clutch and an instant date change mechanism. Power reserve on this watch can last up to 70 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted to the watch is a Breitling professional III stainless-steel bracelet, secured to the wrist by a stainless steel folding clasp.
