The non-smartwatch by Breitling after its inaugural version for pilots, and subsequent driver’s edition is finally being released in a sailor model. This “connected” watch as Breitling prefers to call it will offer many digital enhancements and features by enabling it to “connect” to a smartphone. Introducing the new “Breitling Exospace B55 Yachting” timepeice.
This innovating technology was first introduced by Breitling in 2016 when they released the original “Breitling Exospace B55” (Ref#: EB5510H2/BE79/235S/E20DSA.4) with pilots as their main targets. So, they took their SuperQuartz powered watch and created this hybrid between a traditional wristwatch and these new smartwatches that appeared on the horology market, which they call “connected”. In essence a watch capable of enhanced features by “connecting” to a smartphone via Bluetooth as you can read more about here.

Afterwards there was a follow up to this experimental watch when they released the “Breitling Bentley SuperSports B55” (Ref#: EB552022/BF47/285S/E20DSA.2) that via the app managed to integrate a “chrono race” function that allows to record the split times for each lap, plus calculate the average speeds per lap. And the smartwatch like features didn’t end there as you can read more about the review we published here.

Now Breitling returns with this “yacht” themed version in a 46mm case made of titanium with a screwed on case back also made of titanium. Mounted to the case is a bidirectional ratcheted titanium bezel with a “rider-tab” engraved on it that Breitling states can be used to determine: wind direction (N, S, E and W), sailing angle and optimal starting positions. Although those seem like very complicated data insights to be accomplished by a mere bezel, but we’ll have to await for users eventual feedback.
Also comes equipped with two integrated push-pieces to activate the chronograph functions, plus a non-screw-locked setting crown with crown protectors. Topped by a sapphire crystal glare-proofed on both sides that also assists with water-resistance on this watch reaching up to 100 meters (330 feet).
Time is exhibited on a carbon fiber dial with the titanium applied Arabic numerals: 3, 6 and 9; while the rest of the Arabic numerals are printed in white. On the flange of the dial nearing the bezel is a series of white printed minute index markers with Arabic numerals for every 5-minute increment, plus the minute-track has altering sections of color (red, yellow, blue and black) for a quicker read at a glance view.
There are also two large ultra-legible LCD (liquid crystal display) screens equipped with a white backlighting system that can be activated by pressing the crown. So time can be told via an analog or 12/24 hour LCD digital display. The central hands and Arabic numerals have also undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
Breitling Exospace B55 Yachting
This “Breitling Exospace B55 Yachting” (Ref#: EB5512221B1S1) is powered by the SuperQuartz movement, caliber B55. This is an updated version of the B50 in-house SuperQuartz movement with some smartwatch capabilities, once its “connected”. The caliber B55 can be connected via Bluetooth to an app on a smartphone, which allows to: adjust the time, set the alarm, record timing sessions and provide other useful deatures. Battery life on this SuperQuartz can last up to 10 years. Mounted to the watch is a blue TwinPro rubber strap, secured to the wrist by a titanium folding clasp.
