Flying in to a runway near you is a new “Chronoliner B04” by Breitling, the true “flight captain’s chronograph”. Conceived to accurately measure flight times while juggling between various time-zones all around the world. This watch with the blue and contrasting 18k red-gold is being issued in an exclusive 250-piece limited edition version.

Just last year Breitling released a very similar offering, except that “Chronoliner B04” came with a different color-scheme of black with 18k red gold, which we reviewed here. Other than the colors it’s essentially the same timepiece and was also a limited edition of only 250 manufactured pieces. While more recently Breitling unveiled a stainless-steel “Chronoliner B04” boutique edition also with a blue ceramic bezel, but in a much more limited edition of only 100 manufactured pieces, which we review on the blog here.

The 46mm case is made of 18k red gold with a solid screwed-in case back. Mounted to the case is a steel with blue colored ceramic bezel, which features a 24-hour scale and is bi-directional. There are two push-pieces on the right-side of the case that serve to operate the chronograph function, with a non screw-locked crown in between them, equipped with two gaskets. Topped by a cambered sapphire crystal, glare-proofed on both sides, which also assists with keeping the watch water-resistant up to 100 meters (330 feet).

Time is exhibited on a blue dial with white hour index markers, followed by smaller red gold printed minute index markers and a final outer ring with a fixed 24-hour scale (unlike the scale on the rotating bezel). There are three sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position, a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock position and sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position. There is a date aperture in between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions. The central hands and hour index markers have all undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.

There are also two other thinner central hands, one with a lumed tip which serves the chronograph function. While the red-tip central hand serves to keep track of the home-time in a 24-hour mode, allowing the user to distinguish between day and night; which with the conjunct assistance of the rotating ceramic bezel can display a third time-zone, also in a 24-hour mode. Setting time is easily accomplished by simply pulling out the crown and turning it either way in one-hour increments to adjust local-time; without losing any precision in terms of the minutes and automatically adjusting the date in either direction.
