As we reported before many horology brands opted out of attending the next Baselworld. Among these dissidents was Breitling, who has since then opted to produce their own showcase event that have been dubbed “Summit”. Recently in October during one of these events they unveiled a series of new “Avenger” models.
We have reviewed some of these newer versions of the Breitling Avenger collection, as you can recall here. As well as the special “Avenger 01 Boutique Edition” (Ref#: AB01901A|BF88|168A) and the older 2016 model that were made of the proprietary alloy “Breitlight”.
Now these new 2019 models come in a 45mm case made of black DLC-treated titanium with a solid caseback that has been engraved with the inscription “Breitling Avenger” with a “star” between the wording.
Mounted to the case is a rotating bezel, which is adorned with Arabic numerals and four rider tabs, a classic Breitling adornment which serves to mark time frames.
It comes equipped with two push-pieces to operate the chronograph functions, with a screw-down crown in between them. The screw-locked crown has a non-slip grip for secure handling, even while wearing gloves.
All topped by a cambered sapphire crystal that has been glareproofed on both sides. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 300 meters (1000 feet).
Time is exhibited on either a Breitling: green khaki or black dial with white stencil-style Arabic numerals. A ring of smaller white minute index markers can be seen circling around the dial. Although previous editions to this model line had a “military time” 24-hour scale, these newer version have all opted for the 12-hour scale.
There are three sub-dials: a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position, a 12-hour counter at the 6 o’clock position and a sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock. These sub-seconds, as well of the tip of the central chronograph have all been given some orange highlights.
The hands and Arabic numerals have all undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions.
