One of the oldest horology makers in the industry is back with a new option for their perpetual calendar. Breguet updated the “Villeret Quantième Perpétuel” model last year with a new dial layout, available on a stainless-steel or 18k rose gold version. Now they are releasing a limited boutique edition version with a blue dial on a platinum case. Let’s take a closer look at the limited edition “Blancpain Villeret Quantième Perpétuel Boutique Edition”
The 40mm case has been crafted in solid 950 platinum with a polished finish and a sapphire exhibition case back, which allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement.
Mounted to the case is the platinum double-stepped bezel that has become an emblematic element of this collection. It also comes equipped with slender curved lugs that provide a comfortable wrist fit, as well as a setting-crown that has been embossed with the “JB” logo that refers to the brands founding father: Jehan-Jacques Blancpain.
Usually these calendar watches are designed with lateral correctors that require pusher tools to adjust, but this Blancpain features a proprietary invention that enables the calendar hands and moon phase to be adjusted by simply pressing the small levers, which are located underneath the lugs on the back of the case.
All topped by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal that also assists with water-resistance on this watch reaching up to 30 meters (98 feet).
Time is exhibited on a sunray-brushed blue dial with white-gold applique Roman numerals, which are made in the Villeret font usually preferred by Blancpain. There are three sub-dials: a date-dial at the 3 o’clock position; a day-dial at the 9 o’clock position; and a month-dial that also includes a leap year indicator in its midst, at the 12 o’clock position.
There is also a half arc power reserve indicator that includes a Moonphase adorned by stars and a “man in the moon face”, at the 6 o’clock position.
The central rhodium-plated hour and minutes hands have been slightly skeletonized, with hollow centers to provide a better view to all the dials informative indications. It also includes a thin full central seconds hand with a “JB” counterweight.
