It all began four years ago in 2014 when Blancpain introduced their first series of limited edition BOC timepieces, followed by a second series in 2016 and now after another 2-year interval arrives the third installment.
That initial launch in 2014 also marked the beginning of their annual support of the ocean. Blancpain believes that public awareness is vital to achieve the goal of preservation and protection of the world’s oceans. To better ensure the public at large can access information to educate itself on the threats our fragile underwater ecosystems are faced with. Blancpain has developed an immersive and intuitive website that allows visitors to observe and follow all the on-going activities they endorse, while also highlighting the beauty of the deep seas as you can see here.
The 40mm case is made of a satin-brushed steel, which is an exclusive diameter reserved by the brand only for limited edition pieces. Mounted to the watch is a deep blue unidirectional bezel with a 60-minute scale engraving with large index markers in a green Super-LumiNova coating.
The transparent sapphire exhibition case back allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement, while the steel rim has engravings that read: “BLANCPAIN”, “Fifty Fathoms” in a cursive font and the unique number for each of these limited edition watches. Also visible is the gold winding rotor with a dark grey NAC finish, which has been engraved with the brand logo and model, plus the inscription “OCEAN COMMITMENT”.
Long protruding lugs provide a very comfortable and secure wrist fit. The rim of the 40mm case has “BLANCPAIN” engraved on it. All topped and sealed by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that assists with water-resistance on this watch reaching up to 300 meters (1000 feet).

Time is exhibited on a sun-ray brushed blue dial with painted round and rectangular hour index markers, while the 12 o’clock position is represent by a kite shaped index marker. Further out nearing bezel, on the flange we can see a series of smaller white minute index markers that circle around the dial.
The upper half of the dial has the Blancpain logo printed in white, plus “Fifty Fathoms” in a cursive font. While on the lower half can be seen a world globe with “OCEAN COMMITMENT” and “LIMITED” written on its circumference. The central hands and various shaped hour index markers have all undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions.
