Bell-Ross-BR03-Rafale-02-960x640

This isn’t the first partnership between Bell & Ross and Dassault Aviation. They had worked together in 2013 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Dassault Falcon, one of the world leaders in private jets, by issuing the special edition watches: BR 123 and BR 126. And of course to collaborate once again could only be to top their previous endeavors, introducing the limited-edition: “Bell & Ross BR03-94 Rafale”

The Rafale is France’s top of the line jet fighter, designed for multi-tasking through combat, nuclear strikes, or aerial photography. It is a crowning achievement for French aviation which made all the sense to keep a patriarchal affair by getting Parisian based Bell & Ross, on a joint venture to further celebrate this accomplishment.

But Dassault has done much more than ask for assistance. They have overseen and given their own instruction on particulars for the design of the “Bell & Ross BR03-94 Rafale”. The dial color is a perfect match to the paint used on the plane itself, as well as the typography for the numerals, and other embellishing details. Like the black rubber strap with a black PVD coated steel buckle the watch is mounted to. In keeping with the stealth aesthetics of this meticulous timepiece.

The 42 mm case is shaped in the iconic Bell & Ross square form with a round bezel and is made of a ceramic matte-black, which pairs well with the matte-grey of the dial (also similar to color on the Rafale aircraft). These non-reflective colors allow for a quick and simple legibility of this timepieces time and sub-dials. The Arabic numeral and grey hands contrast well with the black, and feature luminous material for night vision. The central second hand and the hand used in the 30-minute counter sub-dial (positioned at 9 o’clock) have orange colored tips to distinguish themselves from the others. The tachymeter scale is also indicated in orange in order to highlight itself. While the small-second sub-dial (positioned at 3 o’clock) features the etching of the “Rafale aircraft” that inspired this watch.
