The new “Bell & Ross Desert Type” (Ref#: BR 03) was specifically designed for air-force troops deployed in warm countries. The sand-colored theme was chosen to match the uniforms of pilots operating in desert missions. And as always the four main criteria’s of the Bell & Ross brand have been met for this timepiece: legibility, functionality, precision and water-resistance. BaselWorld 2016 is closing in and many brands begin to unveil or hint at what they’re up to, this is the latest from Bell & Ross.
This model is available in three distinct versions and two case sizes. The 42mm case model made from black-colored ceramic is available in two versions: “BR 03-94” and “BR 03-92”. There is also a 39mm version, the “BR S”, aimed at small wrists and the female market. All models are covered by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal that renders the timepiece water-resistant up to 100 meters (328 feet). The case maintains the four screws in the corners as their traditional characteristic, which evokes the aeronautical origins of this watch manufacture.
As for the dials, they all maintain the sand color theme, but each version has its own complications and features. The “BR 03-94” exhibits Arabic numerals for the 12 and 6 o’clock positon, as well as, two sub-dials: a 60-minute counter at the 3 o’clock position and a 30-minute counter at the 9 o’clock positon. This version also includes a date aperture between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions. While the “BR 03-92” has Arabic numerals for the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions and includes the same date aperture. And the 38mm version also keeps the date aperture, has Arabic numerals for the 3, 9 and 12 o’clock positions and a 60-minute counter at the 6 o’clock position. All watches are equipped with the chronograph function since this timepiece was designed for air-pilots who needed a tool to measure short time-intervals.
