Cars and the motorsports world will be a huge focus for Bell & Ross in 2016. The brand has just designed the AeroGT, which consists of an avant-garde concept car and GT grand sport with bodywork reminiscent of a fighter jet. “This concept car is in actual fact an amalgamation of an aircraft and a GT”, says Bruno Belamich, creative-director for Bell & Ross. And accompanying this prototype, are two car-inspired timepieces, introducing the: 03-92 & 03-94 AeroGT models.
Although Bell & Ross has always been associated to aviation, Bruno Belamich, the brands co-founder, is also an avid enthusiast of automobiles. So, this year they’ve joined forces with some specialists in car design and in less than a year have come up with this vehicle. Despite the car still being in a computer-generated phase, it was a major concern to develop a high-performance car with realistic characteristics. So, the AeroGT is a super car inspired by aviation, not breaking away from the aviation roots of this horology brand, but rather widening the possibilities of what their watches can be.
Now though this vehicle is still a mere “prototype blueprint” the duo AeroGT timepieces it has inspired are quite real and will come to market much sooner. Bell & Ross have focused on the similarities between the automotive and watchmaking industries, since they are both preoccupied with: motors, time and precision. Relying on the conjunct performance of: gears, escapements, screws and cams. Recalling the quite old tradition of developing watches for car drivers.
And if this car does actually materialize in the near future, it wouldn’t be the first venture of this sorts for Bell & Ross. Back in 2014, they partnered up with UK’s “Shaw Harley-Davidson Speed & Custom” to manufacture the “B-Rocket motorcycle”, which was also accompanied by a 500 piece limited edition watch, the “Bell & Ross BR 03-90 B-Rocket” watch.
