For a brand that made its name creating military and aviation themed timepieces, as they continue releasing these racing watches for their Renault partnership, we must say they are on the right track. In essence they haven’t even changed their approach that much. They still apply their iconic round dial inside a square, reminiscent of the control dials found in aircraft cockpits.
But, as we saw on the first collection this partnership sprung the Bell & Ross “BR-X1 RS16 Skeleton Chronograph” and “BR-X1 RS16 Tourbillon” were both exceptional watches, highlighting the Renault black & yellow team colors.
Now, this new trilogy of chronographs come in the form of: a classical automatic, a skeletonized automatic and the high-end tourbillon skeletonized version. The preference for chronograph movements is directly linked to the necessity of measuring short periods of time. Motorsport are all about speed and time, so obviously measuring the performance of these vehicles on the track and each of their lap times is crucial information, in order to identify were improvements can be made.

The first model off this series had been reviewed by us previously, follow the link to read more about the “BR-03-94-RS17”. Moving forward we have the two fresher models decorated with a rainbow color-scheme. Their 45mm case is made out of forged carbon with integrated yellow parts to preserve the Renault Sports F1 cars association.
These materials also provide a light-weight yet hyper-solid construction similar to the vehicles that inspired them. So, the high-tech ceramic is capped with yellow rubber, which also provides a firmer grip. Water-resistance on these watches can reach up to 100 meters (330 feet).
The “Bell & Ross BR-X1 RS17 Skeleton Chronograph” features a putter bezel with a tachymeter scale engraved on it, another useful tool for the high-speed pilots. While time is exhibited with Arabic numerals on a tinted sapphire that allows to view the inner movement, so they’re skeletonized dials with various colors spread about, reminiscent of a rainbow, but in actuality inspired by Renault’s steering wheel.
The dial flange is split up to various hour segments with each associated to a specific color. And just like the use of color on the Renault steering wheel, this color segmentation provides a quicker read time.
On this model the colors have been applied as follows: the chronograph hands are yellow, the date is red, the small seconds hand is green and the hour hand was colored white.
