Every once a while a brand can surprise us and Bell & Ross has done just that with their latest “Bell Ross BR 05” collection. This is one more step towards widening their customer base by releasing watch design that wouldn’t normally be associated with people have come to expect.

In essence the goal of the “BR 05” model is to be positioned somewhere between a “dress watch” and a “sports watch”. So, not necessarily a jack-of-all-trades, but a timepiece that can be worn as a daily “beater”. One of the few critique of this watch has been based on its slight similarity to the “Patek Philippe Nautilus” model; although that may also be the exact appeal for other potential buyers.
The 40mm case will be available in either stainless-steel or 18k rose gold, all crafted in a shape reminiscent of the classic Bell & Ross circle in a square format, but not quite.
Mounted to the case is a fixed square bezel with exposed screws. It comes equipped with a setting-crown surround by a crown guard, which give the case an overall concise and compact look.
All topped by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, which also assists with water-resistance on these watches reaching up to 100 meters (330 feet).
Time is exhibited on either a blue, grey (stainless-steel) or black (18k rose gold) dial with applique hour index markers and the Arabic numerals 6, 9 and 12. The blue dial also features a ring of white printed minute index markers, circling around the periphery of the dial. Both models include a date aperture at the 3 o’clock position and the Bell & Ross logo on the dials upper-half.
There is also a limited edition skeletonized dial version, which obviously has a see-thru dial that allows to view the inner workings of the mechanical movement. This dial includes the hour index markers, but it has excluded the Arabic numerals and date aperture. All three modes have been equipped with central hands, hour index markers and Arabic numerals that have undergone a luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility.
Bell & Ross BR 05
The whole (except the skeletonized model) “Bell & Ross BR 05” collection (References below) is powered by the self-winding mechanical movement, caliber BR-CAL.321 with 25 jewels and 28,800 Vph. It is based on the classic Sellita SW300-1, but specifically modified for this Bell & Ross edition. Power reserve on this watch can last up to 38 hours, when fully wound.
Mounted to the watch is either a black rubber strap, or a bracelet matching the case material of either stainless-steel or 18k rose gold, while secured to wrist by a folding buckle with a polished finish also made of the same case material.
These watches should become available in November 2019 and are currently eligible for preorder. The steel skeletonized version is even a limited edition of only 500 manufactured pieces.
