Right on the heels of SIHH, many brands can’t resist and begin to unveil their timepieces destined for Baselworld 2017. Like Bell & Ross with these two new offerings, the: Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Horograph & Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Horolum.
These watches follow the principles of industrial aesthetics and its design premise “shape induced by function”. Many of these notions originated at the legendary German school of fine arts, famously known as “Bauhaus”. As early as the 1920’s the foundations of modern design began to be established and disseminated by what was denominated the “Bauhaus movement”.
The 42mm case is made of micro-blasted stainless-steel with a matte finish and the signature Bell & Ross square case design with a round dial. This “micro-blasted” technique consists of high-pressure spraying of tiny glass beads onto the surface of the metal. A process that slightly roughens the watch, but also attributes a uniform appearance and high purity tone of grey. It’s actually the first time a square steel case, has a matte finish for an anti-reflective look. Water-resistance on this timepiece can reach up to 100m (330 feet).
Time is exhibited on a black dial with white baton indexes and Arabic numerals for every 5 minute interval. Inspiration for the “Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Horograph” watch is said to be derived from clocks seen in airport terminals, with those baton indexes and hands. Here we find the same style of hands, equipped with a luminescent coating that combined with the black & white contrast, guarantees an optimum readability. There is also a date aperture between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions.
Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Horograph
This “Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Horograph” (Ref#: BR0392-HOR-BLC/SRB) is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement, caliber BR-CAL.302 with 256 jewels and 28,800 vph. This in-house mechanical movement is based on the Sellita caliber SW300-1. Power reserve on this timepiece can last up to 38 hours, when fully wound. Mounted to the watch is a black rubber and ultra-resistant black synthetic fabric, secured to the wrist by a stainless-steel pin buckle with a bead blasted finish.
The second offering by Bell & Ross is a limited edition timepiece. It has a airport inspired design based on the traditional sandwich. Horolum derives from the Latin term “lumen” that means “light”. There was an emphasis and clear intention by the brand to make this watch recognizable during day or nighttime. In order to achieve this they applied a monochromatic look, plus the luminous coating on all numerals and the three hands.
The 42mm case is made of stainless-steel with a bead blasted finish and the signature Bell & Ross square case design with a round dial. Covered by a sapphire crystal, which assists in keeping the timepiece water-resistance up to 100m (330 feet).
Time is exhibited on two overlapping inserts (reminiscent of the sandwich dials found on many timepieces by Officine Panerai) a grey upper plate, cut away around the numerals and indexes, revealing the Superluminova C3 coating covering the lower plate, with a green hue. Bell & Ross had recently used this type of sandwich dial on their “Desert Type” models.
Hands are also covered by the greenish luminescent coating, for an enhanced legibility. There is also a date aperture between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions.

The same movement before mentioned as another Bell & Ross release for Baselworld 2017. Power reserve on this timepiece can last up to 38 hours, when fully wound.
