This latest Audemars Piguet presented at SIHH 2016 is the combination of two of AP’s most acquired timepieces. They’ve gone and kept all the elements that made up their fine diver’s watch and added a chronograph. And as to leave no doubt about this new edition causing an impression in the public’s mind-eye, they issued it in four very flashy color schemes.
The 42mm brushed stainless steel case with the iconic octagonal bezel is held tight by 8 gold screws. There’s a crown at the 10 o’clock position that activates the inner rotating bezel, which also features the typical diver 60 minute scale with a contrasting color to highlight the last 15 minutes of the count. This watch is water-resistant up to 300 meters (984 feet), with protection pieces made of black ceramic around the crown and pushers.
The dial also maintains the “mega tapisserie” pattern seen in other Royal Oak’s. As well as two sub-dials, a 30 minute counter at the 9 o’clock position and a small seconds at the 3 o’clock position. The hands have large dimensions for good visibility underwater, pointing to white gold index hour markers to tell the time.
